Will this ramp fit your car?

Compare three researched ramps, or check the ramp you already own. No email address needed.

Product comparisons use full extension and listed overall length. Actual support overlap and usable length can change the geometry. We never shorten a ramp automatically to make it fit.

Try a hypothetical setup:
Three models from one manufacturer, not a market-wide ranking. PetSafe usage guidance checked October 24, 2026. Measurements stay in this page; analytics, if allowed, records completion and link clicks without your measurements.

Three measurements before you shop

Park on firm, level ground. Measure the vertical height to the actual support point for the top of the ramp. Next, measure the clear horizontal space from directly below that point to where the bottom of the ramp can sit. Keep additional room beyond that point for the dog to approach, turn, and be handled.

Use your dog’s measured weight for the load check. Optional storage length is the straight space along the way you intend to stow the collapsed ramp. It does not check a diagonal placement, opening clearance, width, thickness, or secure storage.

  • Rear hatch and side-door access are different setups. Measure the one you will use.
  • Use the exact model’s rated load, not a guess based on its appearance.
  • A listed outside width is not the same as usable walking width. Confirm the tread width and comfortable use.

Compare the published product measurements

Sources checked October 24, 2026. These three PetSafe models were selected because we could verify their basic dimensions; this is not a ranking of every ramp. We have not personally tested or measured them. Lengths below are listed overall dimensions, not independently measured usable tread.

Why some results need confirmation

PetSafe’s selection article lists broader entry-height ranges than its usage page: 19–30 inches for standard/compact and 25–38 inches for Extra Long. The usage page says up to 28 inches for standard/compact and up to 36 inches for XL. This checker screens with the lower usage limits. A passing height check is not proof of a suitable incline for your dog.

The Compact product page also conflicts with itself. Its feature list says 28–70 × 16 × 5 inches, while its specification box says 16.5 × 5.8 × 28.5 inches without explaining the difference. Storage shorter than 28 inches is ruled out; 28 to under 28.5 inches is marked unconfirmed. Longer space clears only this length check. Verify the actual closed dimensions.

For side-door access, PetSafe specifies a compatible adaptor for its telescoping ramps. The checker leaves side-door results unconfirmed and withholds shopping buttons. Door swing, support, adaptor clearance, tread width, and a landing still need physical checking.

How ramp length changes the footprint

The ramp is the sloping side of a right triangle; it is longer than the horizontal space it occupies. With entry height H and working ramp length L, the estimated ground footprint is √(L² − H²), and the incline is arcsin(H ÷ L). All lengths must use the same unit.

Product comparisons use full extension. A longer ramp makes the calculated incline shallower at the same height, but uses more ground space. The checker does not shorten a telescoping ramp to squeeze it into the available space. If full extension does not fit, another location or a separately checked manufacturer-permitted working length may be needed.

These estimates ignore support overlap, ramp thickness, uneven ground, and actual attachment geometry. Measure the installed footprint and follow the manual. No universal “safe angle” or breed-specific medical threshold is used.

Worked examples with hypothetical measurements

These examples run the same rules as the interactive checker. They illustrate dimensional screening, not product tests or recommendations for an individual dog.

Extra Long is ruled out by its ground footprint and stored length.Compact: about 65.8 in footprint, 20.1° incline. Standard: about 67.9 in, 19.5°. Attachment, tread, landing and storage width/height remain unverified.

Compare only after checking your setup

Shopping buttons appear in the checker only for models that clear the listed checks for rear entry. Models ruled out by your measurements do not get a purchase button. Compact links to its manufacturer because we have not verified an exact Amazon listing for that model.

Amazon may show the Standard under the former Solvit name. Confirm the precise variation, dimensions, seller, current availability, and returns before ordering. We do not display prices or review scores because they can change. Commission eligibility does not affect the fit calculations.

If you already own a ramp

Choose “A ramp I already own” and enter its working length and rated load from the manual. You will get an estimated footprint and incline without a shopping shortlist. The result remains unconfirmed until you check that model’s permitted height, setup, tread width, and attachment.

A different level parking position may make existing equipment usable. Rerun the measurements before considering another purchase. Keep the dog’s restraint and travel setup separate from entry equipment.

Frequently asked questions

What length dog ramp do I need for an SUV?

Measure the actual entry height and available ground space. The same ramp has a different incline at different heights, and a longer ramp needs more ground space. The checker compares those dimensions with listed product limits; the vehicle name alone is not enough.

What is a safe ramp angle for a basset hound?

This tool does not set a universal safe angle. It reports the calculated incline so you can compare setups. Follow the exact manufacturer’s instructions and get veterinary guidance for individual mobility or rehabilitation needs.

Does passing mean the ramp fits my dog?

No. It covers selected dimensions and published load/height limits. Usable walking width, footing, attachment, approach room, confidence, and comfortable use need checking separately.

Can I use a ramp through the side door?

It depends on the ramp, vehicle, and attachment. PetSafe specifies an adaptor for side-door use of its telescoping ramps. The checker marks side-door results as unconfirmed rather than assuming rear-entry dimensions prove compatibility.

Can I save or print the result?

Yes. Save a plain-text measurement record or print the result. Your entries stay in this page and are not sent with analytics events. Refreshing the page clears them.
